about the project

SUPERFITTJA is not primarily about documentation and presentation but as much about the production of knowledge, both about finding ways to understand our contemporary city but also to imagine what it could become.
Fittja like so many neighbourhoods from the million-program has been heavily criticized since its implementation; preconceived ideas have shaped what we assume we know regarding its social life, spatial organisation and architectural qualities.

Our aim has been to gain a deeper knowledge about the potentials of areas such as northern Botkyrka, and hopefully produce material that allows for a better understanding about the specific conditions of the built environment from the sixties and seventies.

During this year we have seen that the established image of Fittja obscures many other possible readings, through the work parallel observations about Fittja has emerged. A place driven by many actors and trajectories, a public space that is activated and used in new and different ways, a place where other realities become possible to imagine.
